ABC Kids in Collaboration with Tentang Anak: Pentingnya Stimulasi Dini terhadap Tumbuh Kembang Anak di Usia 5 Tahun Pertama

The early years of a child’s life are a period of tremendous growth and development. Children make significant strides in physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional domains from age one to five. Parents, caregivers, and educators must provide a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and learning during this development phase. To help children reach their full potential during these formative years, on July 28th, 2023, our school invited parents from ABC Kids kindergarten to join our seminar with Tentang Anak, a parenting ecosystem in Indonesia, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and BKKBN. With over 30 experts in their fields, ranging from child health, child psychology, and pregnancy to family financial planning, we invited Ms Grace E. Sameve, M.A, M.Psi, Psikolog, a developmental and clinical child psychologist from Tentang Anak, as our speaker to speak on the topic of “Pentingnya Stimulasi Dini Terhadap Tumbuh Kembang Anak di Usia 5 Tahun Pertama”.  At this event, Ms. Grace discussed how a child’s optimal brain grows 90% before age five. During this golden age, children’s activities must be filled with physical movements to sharpen their motor skills as well as their five senses. Additionally, doing so would hone their two other senses, such as the vestibular and proprioception senses.

Ms Grace also mentioned the factor that can lead to an optimized children’s brain growth is genetics and the environment. As parents, we play an essential role in their growth. We need to connect with our children in order to know their needs; as every child has different love languages, and we have to make sure that we are speaking their love languages. By actively finding various age-appropriate activities for our children to do, showing appreciation, and being a positive role model for them, we can further help children grow optimally in their cognitive development and social-emotional. Cognitive development is knowing what your child is good at and making sure they behave according to age. Meanwhile, social-emotional is the ability for them to name, understand and confirming their feelings.

The seminar also discusses the importance of a father’s contribution; it is as equally as important to that of a mother’s. Thus, it is also important for fathers to spend time playing with their children or having shared activities with them. Both parents must be a team and be present to their children in order for them to achieve an optimal brain development.
