On today’s episode of the ABC Kids Podcast, we had an insightful discussion about disaster prevention, specifically focusing on earthquake preparedness. Hosted by Ms. Maida, our special guests were Mr. Yudi and Mr. Dandy from BPBD Kabupaten Bogor. Both guests have previously conducted a disaster prevention workshop at our school, educating students and teachers on crucial safety measures during emergencies.
During the podcast, Mr. Yudi and Mr. Dandy emphasized the importance of staying calm when an earthquake occurs. The first and most important rule is: Do not panic. Panic can lead to confusion and accidents, so maintaining a clear mind is essential.
Key Earthquake Safety Measures:
- Protect Yourself First – Your safety comes first before assisting others.
- Take Cover Under a Sturdy Table – Glass tables are highly discouraged as they can break easily.
- Evacuate to an Open Space – Once the shaking stops, move to a safe open area, free from buildings, trees, and other structures. Open spaces reduce the risk of injury from aftershocks.
- Protect Your Head – If you can’t evacuate immediately, use books, pillows, or blankets to shield your head from falling debris.
- Teachers as the Vanguard – Mr. Yudi emphasized that teachers play a crucial role in ensuring students’ safety. Preparedness and quick action from educators can significantly reduce risks during disasters.
Our guests also introduced SPAB (Satuan Pendidikan Aman Bencana), a program designed to create disaster-resilient schools by providing training and emergency preparedness strategies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to BPBD Kabupaten Bogor for their invaluable education and dedication to disaster prevention. Their insights will surely help our school community become more prepared and resilient in times of crisis.
