At Brighton JHS Depok, we understand that parenting is a lifelong journey — one that comes with both joy and challenges. To support parents in navigating this journey with confidence and compassion, the school recently hosted a Parenting Seminar titled “Dari Konflik ke Solusi”, presented by Ms. Imelda Saraswati, M.Psi., Psikolog from BINUS Bekasi.
The seminar focused on a theme that every parent can relate to: conflict. Whether it’s about setting boundaries, managing emotions, or communicating effectively with children, conflicts are an inevitable part of family life. However, as Ms. Imelda beautifully highlighted, conflicts do not have to divide, they can be powerful opportunities to understanding, growth, and deeper connection within the family.
Throughout the session, parents were guided to see conflicts from a new perspective. Instead of viewing them as negative experiences, they learned how to recognize the emotions behind disagreements and respond with empathy and patience. Ms. Imelda shared practical tools and psychological insights that help transform tension into teachable moments, where parents can manage their emotional regulation, active listening, and mutual respect for their children.
Parents also participated in reflective discussions and interactive sharing, where they could connect with one another and exchange real experiences from their daily lives. This created a warm and supportive environment, reminding everyone that they are not alone in their parenting journey. Together, they explored how understanding their child’s perspective, setting consistent boundaries, and communicating with calm and clarity can lead to more peaceful and positive relationships at home.
By the end of the seminar, many parents expressed feeling more equipped and inspired to approach family conflicts differently — not as battles to win, but as bridges to build connection and trust. As Ms. Imelda emphasized, “Every conflict holds a key to connection — when we pause, listen, and understand what our children truly need.”
