On an exciting educational trip, students from Brighton Junior High School Depok had the opportunity to visit the Yakult and Otsuka (Pocari Sweat) factories. The visit was part of our school’s initiative to provide real-world learning experiences that connect classroom lessons with practical applications in everyday life.
At the Yakult Factory, students were introduced to the story behind the popular probiotic drink. They learned about Dr. Minoru Shirota, the creator of Yakult, and how the drink is scientifically formulated to support digestive health. The tour allowed students to observe each step of the production process — from fermentation and quality control to packaging — and understand the importance of hygiene, microbiology, and health science in food production.
The learning continued at the Otsuka Factory, where students discovered how Pocari Sweat, a rehydration drink, is made. They were fascinated by the high-tech machinery and strict quality control systems that ensure the safety and consistency of every bottle. More importantly, students gained insight into the science of hydration and the role of electrolytes in maintaining body health, especially during physical activity.
Throughout the trip, students were encouraged to ask questions, take notes, and reflect on how what they saw connects to their science, health, and social studies lessons. The experience also sparked discussions about careers in food science, biotechnology, and health industries.
This factory visit not only broadened our students’ knowledge but also inspired them to think more critically about the products they consume and the industries that create them.
We’re proud to offer learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom walls — because education is everywhere!
