Adopt, Don’t Shop! A Charity Seminar With Pejaten Shelter

In ABC Kids, we believe that every living being deserves to live and to be loved, including animals. Because of that, we have recently partnered with Pejaten Shelter—a non-profit organization—that was established in 2009 by dr. Susana Somali Sp.PK, with the mission to rescue and care for abandoned animals. For its 14 years of operation, Pejaten Shelter has protected approximately more than 1500 dogs, 250 cats, and 52 monkeys making it a shelter for animals with the most adoptions

In support for this collaboration, ABC Kids have curated a range ways of students to actively participate. From providing rice, flea medicine, and carbolic acid to donating dog food, cat food and raw meat, we want the students to not only learn about the importance of animal shelters but also start to give back to the community. Each donation, big or small, goes a long way in supporting the shelter’s operations.

Our students can look forward to an enriching experience that will be held in February this year.

We hope that by contributing in this collaboration event, ABC Kids students can participate in the well-being of animals and also learn about the importance of extending kindness to all living beings. Empowering Educators: HEI Teachers Toolkit Socialization at ABC Kids Kindergarten

On January 5, 2024, educators from ABC Kids kindergarten gathered for a transformative event: ‘’Preschool Teachers Development Program’’. This event marked a significant step in the evolution of our educational approach, integrating the innovative Finnish-inspired curriculum with local educational standards. HEI Teachers Toolkit, renowned for its play-based methodology aligned with the National Core Curriculum of Finland, offers a versatile framework adaptable to diverse educational contexts, including Asian, Middle Eastern, and American standards. At ABC Kids Kindergarten, we have embraced this progressive curriculum alongside the Kurikulum Merdeka, enriching our students’ learning experiences with a dynamic blend of global best practices and local cultural relevance.

The HEI Teachers Toolkit is more than just a curriculum, it’s a pedagogical philosophy centered around play, exploration, and holistic development. Drawing inspiration from Finland’s renowned education system, the Toolkit prioritizes experiential learning, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills. Its adaptable nature allows educators to tailor activities and learning objectives to suit their student’s unique needs and cultural contexts.

One of the key strengths of the HEI Teachers Toolkit is its compatibility with diverse educational frameworks. At ABC Kids, we recognized the importance of preserving cultural identity while embracing global educational best practices. By integrating the Toolkit with Kurikulum Merdeka, which emphasizes autonomy, mastery, and purpose, we’ve created a synergistic approach that honors our students’ heritage while preparing them for a rapidly changing world.

The implementation of the HEI Teachers Toolkit in conjunction with the Kurikulum Merdeka has resulted in many benefits for our students. By engaging in play-based learning activities, children are able to develop essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and communication in a natural and enjoyable way. Additionally, the focus on self-directed learning encourages students to take charge of their own education, promoting independence and a lifelong love of learning.

The HEI Teachers Toolkit Socialization served as a platform for professional growth and collaboration among our educators. Facilitated by experienced trainers, the event provided insights into effective implementation strategies, practical classroom techniques, and opportunities for reflection and peer learning. By investing in continuous professional development, we ensure that our teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of our students.

Scoot on, Mario!

Mario Ezer Tampubolon

SD ABC Kids DDN

There are many ways to enhance our self-confidence. One is to achieve a particular goal, like what Mario Ezer Tampubolon, our 4th-grade ABC Kids Elementary DDN student, has done recently. In the Kapolda DIY Cup 2023 Roller Skate Competition, he successfully won two medals: a silver medal for speed DTT 200 m and a bronze medal for speed DTT 100 m.

He admitted he was grateful for being the runner-up and second runner-up in that competition. On the other hand, he also felt unsatisfied because his target was being the champion and getting the gold medal. Mario has a regular schedule to practice roller skating with his clubmates four days a week. Roller skating is one of the common sports for children nowadays. There are several clubs in the Jabodetabek area which regularly join both local and national range competitions.

Mario is determined to practice harder to achieve gold medals in future competitions. Once again, Congratulations, Mario! You’ve done a superb performance!

Practice makes perfect!

Arskha Albarr Nizam
ABC Kids Elementary DDN

The term “education” nowadays has grown to refer not only to what students do at school but also to extracurricular activities outside of the classroom setting .According to research, children who takes up sports as their extracurricular activities, helps them in their cognitive abilities and allow them to overcome adversities. For example, martial arts offers many benefits to those who practice the activity. It allows children to practice skills such as having the ability to focus, balance, coordination, decision-making, and respect, among others. This month, one of our students from ABC Kids Elementary, Depok branch, Arsakha Albarr Nizam, won a gold medal in the KONI Cup Series 4 for the Poomsae Individual Pra Cadet category. It is an enormous achievement for an elementary student to be a champion in a taekwondo competition.

Arsakha shared his happiness and pride to inspire everyone who dreams of not giving up easily by having self-confidence, practicing regularly and enjoying every step and progress. This was the first time he won a Taekwondo competition. To be in his state now, he has been practicing Taekwondo in his club twice weekly. His parents are very supportive of his hobby. Thus, he said that he wants to perform better in the future by practicing more and more.

Arsakha has proven that practicing hard for his hobby can lead him to be a champion in a competition. For everyone who wants to try something new, he has an inspiring message: Try and enjoy something you like! Go for it, and you might find something you love.
